What is the principle and methods for heatsink aluminium extrusion die design?

For its light weight, beautiful, good thermal conductivity and easy processing into complex shapes,aluminum alloy is widely used to produce chiller equipment.Aluminum heatsink profiles are mainly in three types: flat wide shape, or a fishbone-shaped comb-shaped; round or oval-shaped;and tree bracing shape.

Compared with the other aluminum extruded sections,heatsink has its own special features: the distance between the fins is short, large width depth ratio; differential wall thickness,teeth thin, and bottom thicker. The die design,manufacturing and production are very difficult for the complexity of manufacturing and production.

For designing heatsink aluminium extrusion die,controling metal flow distribution and speed is very important. Below two methods are commonly used.

1.Width spreading-Guide feed design

Spreading extrusion could be used for manufacturing of wide profile sections in the extrusion industry.With spreading feeder plate,the dies force the metal flow to sideways and spread so as to extrude sections with wider dimensions than the initial billet or the maximum container diameter.

2.Hollow method design

The left design uses pre-distribution method,the right design uses width spreading-guide feed and hollow die design,so that we can increase extruding section range and improve die life,section quality.
